The Tall Ships' Races, organised by Sail Training International are commonly called in Poland "Operation Sail", although the latter is a series of ocean races.
From 1972 to 2003, the event was called The Cutty Sark Tall Ships' Races, after the name of its sponsor, a producer of Scotch whisky. Since 2004, the Races have been called The Tall Ships' Races. Gdynia is among only a few cities in the world that had the honour of holding The Tall Ships' Races four times.
